North Carolina scholar and music producer, gum.mp3, published his newest theories on Dance, Jazz, and Afrofuturism on March 7th, titled, Black Life, Red Planet . Just weeks after writing an essay for Resident Advisor exploring Southern Rap as a form of Black Futurist Dance music, gum reminds everyone why he is one of 2024’s most exciting artists.
Black Life, Red Planet is a deep wander into the artistic realm of gum.mp3, touring his diverse world of dance music, while being introduced to new friends and ideas along the way. The full project is just over 33 minutes long, but it feels like hours pass by when the different instruments become tastefully personified and beautifully narrated, creating numerous remarkable moments throughout. Gum.mp3 creates his own flavor on Black Life, Red Planet , and each song has unique hints of everything from Jazz, House, Jungle, Baile Funk, and Garage. But all together, it tastes like a watermelon, cherry, and mango Dubble Bubble.
