There are few feelings that can compare to the moment you discover an artist you know will become a staple in your library. That’s how we felt when we came across Kaicrewsade only a few months ago. Since our first listen, we have been head-over-heels for his warm and soulful sound and has been swiftly gaining support from platforms like Pigeons and Planes.
Kaicrewsade is already certified in his hometown Chicago for crafting a custom safe-space community built around poetry and open mic nights. However, the April 13th EP and short film Tank on E expands Kai’s rhythmic universe, while at the same time grounding the audience and immersing them in the same environment that inspired Tank on E .
The first thing that stands out about this EP is the seamless transitions between songs, and the satisfying production. Kai told Complex that these days, he doesn’t like sampling and prefers to work directly with producers to create something from scratch. This allows Kai to get closer with the listener, and summon an original emotion that blends nostalgia, optimism, struggle, and perseverance. Tank on E is an addicting appetizer for the world through the lens of Kaicrewsade, and is an exciting update on his first full album.
