Artist of the Week: Pink Siifu
Artist of the Week: Pink Siifu
Annabelle Kline-Zilles

There are few feelings that can compare to the moment you discover an artist who sounds like nothing you’ve ever heard before. Their sound can’t fall into a familiar category; you find yourself immersed in a sonic space that feels brand new and exhilarating. That’s exactly how I felt when I first discovered Pink Siifu back in 2019. This year, the release of Siifu’s newest album BLACK’!ANTIQUE has given a whole new batch of fans that same experience of diving headfirst into his remarkable world.

Pink Siifu fans know him best as a genre-bender and a dot connector. He does not shy away from collaboration (quite the opposite actually): he works like a chameleon, melding his sound seamlessly with his extensive roster of collaborators. His collaborations with artists like Ahwlee, Turich Benjy, and HiTech each bring out a different side of his artistry. He’s constantly exploring new genres and seamlessly incorporating them into his ever-changing sound.

What I love most about the BLACK’!ANTIQUE album is the way it shows love to the many different versions of Siifu I’ve come to know over the years. The feel of the album never stays in one place for too long - whether it’s the thumping intensity of the intro track “BLACK’!ANTIQUE”, the ethereal feel of “Girls Fall Out The Sky”, or the laid-back bounce of “U.ALREADY’!”.

Siifu is 100% confident in his taste, and he has truly become a master curator. When you go in to listen to a new Pink Siifu album, you will emerge with at least 10 new artists you have to check out. His music has sent me down countless rabbit holes leading to the discovery of some of my favorites (like HiTech, who performed at his epic album listening experience at Good Room in Brooklyn).

Speaking of his album listening experience, we were fortunate enough to work on the event alongside Siifu and the amazing DANIRO, who led the organization of the unforgettable party. The night featured DJ sets from 454, DANIRO, and Stonie Blue, along with a live performance from HiTech and an exclusive first listen of the album with Siifu. This made our first listen of BLACK'!ANTIQUE extra special.

If you haven’t listened to Pink Siifu’s newest album yet, it’s about time you did. As he tweeted on the day of his album’s release: “PLAY MY SHIT LOUD AF’! FK YO LANDLORD’!”
