I have a vivid memory of my first front-to-back listening experience of JPEGMAFIA’s I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU . I had just boarded a 14-hour flight to Seoul, clicking play on “i scream this in the mirror before i interact with anyone” right as we took off. As I got higher and higher in the air, New York City becoming a distant, insignificant speck on earth, I was left alone with this surreal ride of an album blasting through my headphones at full volume.

This project, in true JPEGMAFIA style, is chaotic and unhinged yet heartfelt somehow. I’m always impressed by his aggressively unpredictable production style, incorporating soulful moments into otherwise rock-influenced noise. Critics argue he tries to do too much in just 41 minutes - but in my opinion, the mayhem is what makes Peggy himself. (Also, f*ck the critics.)
