Chlothegod is an artist who is not afraid to bear all of herself. Whether it’s in her lyricism or in the fearless way she unleashes her energy through her voice, she is determined to show herself in the most authentic way possible. We see her channeling pure rage on her song “UGOMDN”, yet her live on-stage performances reveal a kind and bubbly personality that connects beautifully to her audience. Chlo’s music reminds us that we are human, and we can feel it all.
So, it’s very fitting that her newest project is titled I Feel Different Every Day. Before I even listened to the album, I was ecstatic to see Chlo embracing the facet of her artistry that I love so much- the spectrum of emotion she’s able to communicate makes me feel so seen. The intro track “I Know What Everyone Says About Me” starts out fragile, slowly escalating as Chlo steps into the spotlight. The song ends with an explosion of energy, catapulting the listener into a swimming pool of feelings.
The song on this album that hit me the hardest is the title track: “I Feel Different Every Day”. Soft guitars and Chlo’s narration paint a glimmering picture of her family dynamics, with Chlo sat in the middle feeling different every day . Chlo goes on to admit her faults, like her addictive personality, battles with self-pity, and her tendency to isolate herself. Similar to the intro track, the song escalates into a full-volume rock explosion, bursting with passion. The moment feels like a dramatic crash-out after spending too many hours in your head battling with your own inner voices.
It’s difficult to point to any clear influences in Chlo’s sound- she’s built something that sounds so distinctly her own! I adore the way she ties humor into her lyrics and the way she delivers them. I adore the way she details her relationship struggles; by the end I feel deeply involved and ready to wage war on her exes! I adore how this newest album shows that self-confidence is born out of knowing all of yourself and having a willingness to confront it, even if it’s uncomfortable.
Chlothegod is one of a kind, and her music is a gift to us all!
