Artist of the Week: mynameisntjmack
Artist of the Week: mynameisntjmack
Quincy Davis

mynameisntjmack’s artistry has evolved so much over the past year alone, and his audience growth over the past two weeks since his most recent album, mynameisnt , can only be described as remarkable. In 2023, Annabelle sat down with mynameisntjmack in the studio for just under an hour to talk about his EP, BOOKMARK , which released around the same time. During that conversation, Annabelle and mynameisntjmack talk about the importance of making genuine connections and fostering relationships with other artists and musicians in the industry. mynameisntjmack also talked with Annabelle about how much producers help create his sound, and make his projects sound smooth as a whole. mynameisnt features standout production from John Wehmeyer, Gutty, Zach Niess, Lim0, and Wulf Morpheus, all of whom worked on the BOOKMARK EP in 2023. mynameisntjmack also brings in his newer producer connections like Kirti Pandey, crybby, Max He, Bue, and Mirelle Cabangbang which makes it easier for him to continue to build-onto his previous sounds and ideas. Only a year later, we get to see how mynameisntjmack continues to develop with his old collaborators, while also building new bridges on mynameisnt .

mynameisnt is stacked to the brim with an all-star lineup of features and producers across 11-tracks, with most of these names being common collaborators of mynameisntjmack. "aslongas" is the first example that comes to mind because mynameisntjmack combines old and new faces for longtime fans. This song features the fresh flow of Wakai and the signature silky Tommy Richman. "high kick" is another highlight on this album, featuring exciting verses from femdot. and Mick Jenkins and is also one of the project singles. In addition to introducing new and reintroducing familiar faces for long-time listeners of mynameisntjmack, this album has some electrifying moments. One of my favorite parts of the album comes right at the beginning, when the beat switches on "angrylilaccidents", then quickly transitions into proper vertigo before ending with an amazing verse from Sol ChYld. Both "proper vertigo" and "angrylilaccidents" were lead singles for the project, and were accompanied by stunning music videos directed by Billy Landers and andrpw respectively. The coherency, the sonic and visual aesthetic, and the many memorable moments of this album is one of the many things that makes this project addicting to listen to. The sonic journey of mynameisnt takes you through different groove pockets, stops through various different samples, and keeps your energy high, while still massaging your ears and easing your mind.

mynameisntjmack builds onto his previous roster of frequent collaborators, producers, and friends, and introduces new people into his circle to make mynameisnt his most matured, refined, coherent, and compelling project. Building onto his previous network instead of working with completely new people allowed his sound to continue to organically grow, but also made it easier for his new audience to look back and trace the journey mynameisntjmack has been on for years. mynameisnt is beyond impressive overall, but it also has created a very well-deserved moment for mynameisntjmack and his team to reach new heights.
